The 2 quotes RESCUE RAISE RELEASE and the one about the STARFISH (Authors Unknown) were both found on
http://thesquirrelboard.com/ where people get advice on raising rescued squirrels. A very good and not to mention cute site. All I did was dress them up.

PINE SISKIN

I went out to fill some empty feeders and was just reaching up to take down the sunflower one when I noticed this Pine Siskin perched on the finch feeder which was no more than six inches away from me, I abruptly stopped what I was doing and we just watched each other for a while, I was overwhelmed with the urge to run into the house and grab my camera but thought that if I moved it would fly away and I didn't want to miss this opportunity to really get a good look at it, to my surprise it just continued to sit there even after I dropped my arms away from the sunflower feeder so I decided to take a chance on the camera, I backed away slowly hoping it would still be there when I came back out, it must have been my lucky day because not only did I get to see my very first Pine Siskin but it also allowed me to get several good pictures. I did not know until later that evening when I looked through my bird book that it was a Pine Siskin and I also read that they are quite comfortable around humans, I noticed several more of them through out the summer but not up close like this one and I'm sad to say that I haven't seen another one since that summer.

SNAPPING TURTLE

SNAPPING TURTLE
I'm guessing this was a female looking for a place to lay its eggs. Unfortunately it picked our laneway which is just dirt and gravel and wasn't discovered until after the car was driven over it. Fortunately or miraculously it was ok. I spent a good deal of the morning watching over it and taking pictures as it slowly made its way back down our laneway and across the dirt road into the tall grass which led to a runoff ditch.
